Health and fitness programs are available to help seniors remain active and self-sufficient.
Chair Fitness exercise strengthens muscles, improve flexibility, joint mobility, coordination, stamina and balance.
Easy Pace Aerobics Basic classes offer mild to moderate joint involvement, 20 minutes of cardio-marching in place, basic arm and leg movement patterns, muscle strengthening, flexibility, endurance, coordination, balance, and breathing. A variety of equipment is used.
Easy Pace Aerobics Plus classes offer moderate to full range of motion, 25 minutes cardio, marching, traveling patterns forward & backward, side to side power moves optional, strengthening, flexibility, endurance, balance, coordination, and breathing activities. A variety of equipment is used.
Muscle Strengthening class improves strength, bone density, balance, endurance, and a variety of equipment is used.
Tai Chi improves balance, coordination, cardiovascular, everyday physical function, sleep, and reduces stress, pain, bone loss and depression.
Stability Ball/Pilates improves core strength, balance, flexibility, breathing; this program uses large balls and is done on floor mats.
Warm Water Exercise is gentle, slow flowing movements in water temperature of 88/90 degrees for those with limited mobility-arthritis, joint pain, etc. 45 minute class.
Walk Across Texas is a 6 week program where members use a pedometer to walk across designated regions of Texas keeping a log of steps and miles taken. Good physical activity for everyone.
Walking Program at City Park Mon.-Fri. 9am. Walking strengthens all muscles and is good cardiovascular activity. No equipment needed, no training because everyone knows how to walk.
Push up Challenge is an excellent way to strengthen the upper body and front and back. This 10 week program is to do 400 push ups (1 minute at a time) in each exercise class. Students keep track of push-ups.
Blood Pressure Checks are taken monthly by our retired nurse and logged for reference.
Matter of Balance program is designed to reduce the fear of falling and increases the activity levels of older adults who have concerns about falling. This program utilizes volunteer coaches to teach two hour sessions.
Health Fairs offer a variety of services and products from community and surrounding area businesses, doctors, therapist, health foods, medical business and health and wellness businesses and fitness equipment and apparel.
Nutritional Classes provide basics and simple recipes for the older adult to make better and healthier choices with foods.
